Victim of Renton park shooting dies
UPDATE AT 11:42 A.M.: The victim of last night’s shooting was pronounced dead at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center at 9:50 a.m. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will be responsible for formally identifying the victim, and for determining cause and manner of death.
UPDATE: 9: a.m. | A 20-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she was shot in the abdomen in a park in Renton yesterday.
Renton police received 911 calls reporting a shooting at Liberty Park just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman lying on the ground on the east side of the park. According to witnesses and city video monitoring, police learned that a fistfight had started between two women, each with a separate group of people. During the fight, guns were pulled by men in both groups and shots were fired. After the shooting, most of those involved fled.
The victim, whose name was not released by police, was shot once and taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to a Renton Police Department news release. A man was detained near the shooting scene and questioned by police and released pending further investigation.
Renton police are asking any witnesses or others with knowledge of the shooting to call the department at 425-430-7500 and reference case number 13-5506.
