Tuesday memo: 2 killed in bus crash … $1,103 speeding ticket … More warm days

weather0507

Bus crash kills two: A man and his wife were killed when a Sound Transit bus struck an SUV driven by their 51-year-old son, according to the Washington State Patrol. After the crash in Kirkland, passengers on the bus called 911 to report it was not stopping.  The bus driver said the brakes had stopped working, but investigators have not confirmed that.

May is the new August, apparently: A few clouds over the next few days, but we’re still in for some gorgeous 70-plus degree days. Don’t expect record heat like yesterday’s 86, which was the highest in the country, but that felt a bit too hot, didn’t it?

May Day charges: Prosecutors charged five men with felonies for their roles in May Day violence during an anti-capitalism demonstration last week. Anarchists had planned to fill the courtroom to show support for the men who were charged, but they failed to materialize. About 20 people said the courtroom was so packed yesterday with reporters and photographers that they could not get in.

Fast motorcyclist gets fat ticket: A Medina man got slapped with a $1,103 fine for driving 130 mph in a 55 mph zone on his new motorcycle in central Oregon. But the craziest number in this story: He’s 61 years old. Aren’t we supposed to grow wiser and more cautious with age? He could have his license suspended.
