Neighbors provided information that led investigators to investigate the boy, Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore said. “It was definitely intentionally set,” he said.
The police arson and bomb squad arrested the boy, who was being booked into the King County Youth Services Center, police spokeswoman Renee Witt reported. No other details were immediately available on how the boy is believed to have started the fire.
The fire was reported at 3:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of 22nd Avenue West and sent a black plume of smoke 200 feet into the air, Moore said. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control. Damage was estimated at $30,000.
None of the occupants of the triplex house in front of the carport was injured. Beth Young, who was napping with her two young children, said she woke to the sound of tea lights popping and fled with the children.
Flames charred part of the wall of the brick house and blew out a window, Moore said.
