Bothell police arrest man suspected in slaying of estranged wife

The husband of the Bothell woman who was found dead in her home in February was arrested by Bothell police this morning.

Officers arrested Alan Smith, 37, at 8:25 a.m., said  Bothell Police Capt. Denise Langford. Smith was being held for investigation of first-degree murder and could be booked into the Snohomish County Jail as early as this afternoon.

Smith is suspected of killing his estranged wife, Susann Smith, whose body was discovered in her home Feb. 12. She had been stabbed and beaten about the head, according to police.

Thursday’s arrest was the second for Smith in less than one week. He was arrested last Friday for obstruction of justice after refusing to turn over his passport to investigators serving a search warrant.

Bothell police said Smith eventually relinquished his passport and posted bail the following day.

Smith has not been formally charged.
