Evening commute a nightmare

It’s been one big mess.

Accidents and stalls — and perhaps people rushing home to see the NBA final game — snarled traffic during this evening’s homeward commute on Interstates 5, 405, 90, Highway 99 and surface streets leading to those routes.

In reporting a crash that blocked HOV lanes in both directions of I-5 at the West Seattle Bridge shortly after 5:30 p.m., a DOT staffer quipped, “I can’t make this stuff up!”

Another tweet reported travel times as “SO BAD! You better see them for yourselves!”

Metro Transit reported after 6 p.m. that some buses were running 30 minutes late.

As long as we’re telling war stories, it took this reporter more than  an hour to travel from Elliott Avenue to The Seattle Times building in the South Lake Union neighborhood.
