Naked woman missing in SW Washington forest

UPDATED, 9:22 p.m. | Officials suspended the search for Maureen Kelly, 19, at 8 p.m. Monday, Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said. The search will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

It is unknown whether she may have been on a road or trail in the area, or if she is moving cross-country. Anyone who may have seen Kelly in the Canyon  Creek area or on Forest Road 54 within the past 24 hours is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 509-427-9490.

ORIGINAL POST | A woman hiker, naked except for a fanny pack, is the subject of a search today in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Southwest Washington.

Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said the 19-year old Vancouver woman went hiking naked because she was going on “a spiritual quest.”

“We’re not sure what that means, but that’s what we were told,” he said.

She was expected to return about midnight last night from a hike that started in the park’s Canyon Creek Campground.  Overnight temperatures were believed to be in the low 50s, which Cox called “relatively mild.”
