Naked woman missing in SW Washington forest

A woman hiker, naked except for a fanny pack, is the subject of a search today in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Southwest Washington.

Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said the 19-year old Vancouver woman went hiking naked because she was going on “a spiritual quest.”

“We’re not sure what that means, but that’s what we were told,” he said.

She was expected to return about midnight last night from a hike that started in the park’s Canyon Creek Campground.

Overnight temperatures were believed to be in the low 50s, which Cox called “relatively mild,”  but he said searchers are concerned about the prospect of the woman being out for a second night with miminal supplies and equipment.

The area is a steep mountainside with heavy timber and brush.

At midday, Cox said searchers had seen no sign of the woman.
