Passenger thrown from car and killed near Marysville

A man was thrown from a car and killed during rush hour Friday evening after the car in which he was a passenger struck a highway barrier and flipped over just outside Marysville, according to Everett police.

The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. and caused the closure of Highway 529 from West Marine View Drive to Marysville.

Witnesses told police the vehicle  was traveling erratically in the northbound lanes of 529 when it struck a barrier, rolled over and then righted itself again. The car then traveled a third of the way into a median, ejecting the passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s identity has not been released.

The driver of the car was transported to Providence Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
