Searchers are continuing to look for 79-year-old Hildegaard Hendrickson of Seattle, who didn’t return from a mushroom hunting outing last Saturday, according to Chelan County Undersheriff John Wisemore.
Searchers have covered the area within one-half mile around the missing mushroom picker’s car, but will be expanding the search today, Wisemore said.
More than 60 personnel from several search and rescue departments have been involved with the operation so far, and Wisemore expects more to get involved today. He also said members of the Mushroom Pickers Association who know Hendrickson and her methods of searching for mushrooms are assisting with the search efforts.
Hendrickson’s car had apparently been at a trailhead since Saturday but was not reported as “suspicious” until Tuesday. Deputies found her ID in the car and contacted family members who said Hendrickson hadn’t returned from her Saturday hike.
Hendrickson, an avid and experienced mushroom hunter, is a retired faculty member and department chairwoman at Seattle University’s Albers School of Business and Economics, where she worked from 1967 to 1996.
