Washington has 158 craft breweries, the second most in the U.S., according to new data from the Brewers Association (and visualized on this interactive map in The New Yorker). California is No. 1 with 316 craft breweries.
Two of the fastest-growing craft breweries in the country are located in Seattle: Elysian Brewing Co., which increased its production by 136 percent between 2011 and 2012, ranks as the eight fast-growing brewery; Fremont Brewing Co. ranks 11th, with an 84 percent spike in production.
219,107 barrels of craft beer were produced in Washington in 2012.
About 13 percent of adults in the Seattle metropolitan area say they’ve enjoyed a microbrew in the past 30 days–more than double the national average, according to market data from Scarborough Research.
