Witnesses run to woman’s aid in Edmonds domestic dispute

Edmonds police responding to an early morning 911 call found a man with a bloody face — and a confusing crime scene that led to initial reports of a man being shot.

Police now say it was a domestic dispute and no one was shot.

It all started during a car ride from Everett and ended with a man with face cuts being sent to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The call came in at 2:20 a.m. after two men at the Park Ballinger Apartments near 76th Avenue West and 228th Street Southwest witnessed another man repeatedly striking a woman holding a small child, said Sgt. Mark Marsh of the Edmonds Police Department.

Police said the domestic dispute started when the woman was driving the suspect, who is reportedly her ex-boyfriend, and their 15-month-old child to the suspect’s Park Ballinger apartment. At some point the dispute turned physical and the woman tried to flee.

Two men came to the woman’s aid — one of them jumping from a balcony to reach her. When they encountered the suspect, he charged at them, Marsh said. The two hit him several times in self-defense and then brought the woman and child into their apartment until police arrived.

The suspect’s injuries were not life-threatening.
