1 arrested following drive-by shooting in Bremerton

A Port Orchard man was arrested last night following a drive-by shooting in Bremerton, police said.

The victim said he was driving next to the another vehicle on Naval Avenue around 9:30 p.m. when he exchanged words with the occupants of the second vehicle, police said. Someone in the second vehicle fired a gun out of the passenger window and struck the driver’s door of the victim’s vehicle.

The victim, a 31-year-old Bremerton man, was not injured.

Police pulled over the suspect vehicle on Rainier Avenue at 6th Street. As the officer was getting out of his patrol car, a male passenger got out of the front seat of the suspect car. The officer then heard a gunshot come from the suspect vehicle, police said. The passenger dropped to the ground and then immediately got up and took off running, police said.

The driver of the car, a 40-year-old woman, and a second passenger, a 28-year-old man, were taken into custody for questioning.

The fleeing suspect was caught several minutes later after a lengthy chase. Police said he had dropped a gun about 150 feet from the suspect vehicle as he fled from officers.

No officers were injured.

The 29-year-old suspect was booked into Kitsap County Jail for investigation of drive-by shooting, first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. Bremerton police say the suspect and victim appear to know each other.
