Ballard Locks to close part of Wednesday for inspection

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard will be closed to all marine traffic from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday for a monthly saltwater-drain screen structure inspection.

The inspection requires the locks be closed to all traffic but emergency vessels on emergency calls. Boaters can verify the locks are open by calling the on-duty lockmaster at 206-783-7000.

The screen structure, immediately upstream of the locks, prevents salmon from enter the locks’ doors. Monthly inspections are required until the locks are opened in September. More information is available at http://bit.ly/BallardLocks.
