Gunshot fired in Everett Mall Macy’s; 1 in custody

A man was taken into custody Tuesday night after police said he fired a gun when stopped for shoplifting at the Everett Mall Macy’s.

No customers were injured in the incident, which occurred at about 5:45 p.m.

The suspect, a 26 year-old from Everett, will be booked into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of robbery and assault once he is released from Providence Medical Center – Colby Campus, Everett police said. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries that police say he suffered while fighting with the store’s security personnel.

Security suspected the man of shoplifting, and stopped him as he left the store, police said. He started fighting with the security staff, police said, then fired a shot from a handgun. Security personnel got control of the gun and detained him. The area was locked down while authorities searched for any additional suspects and possible victims.

Macy’s closed for the evening, but the rest Everett Mall remained open.
