UPDATE, 8:30 p.m. | Police have arrested a 32-year-old Puyallup man in connection with the attempted sexual assault of a Puyallup woman Tuesday night. The man will be booked for felony attempted sexual assault. The case remains under investigation.

ORIGINAL POST | The attempted sexual assault of a Puyallup woman has police asking the public for help.

Officers responded to the Walmart at 310 31st Avenue southeast 10:20 p.m. Tuesday after a 22-year-old woman reported being assaulted. The woman told police the attack happened nearby on the 2900 block of 5th Avenue southeast. Police are looking for a suspect.

The woman told police the man physically assaulted her and forced her towards a nearby fence after she encountered him on a sidewalk and engaged in a brief conversation. She struck the man with her knee and ran to the Walmart store for help.

Police and a K-9 team searched the area but failed to locate the woman’s attacker. However, police said they have images of the man thanks one of the Walmart’s surveillance cameras.

Puyallup Police said the suspect was described as a white man in his 30s, about 6’2” tall and 180 pounds. He had stained or decaying teeth, a distinct circular tattoo around his bellybutton and a tattoo on his right bicep. The man was wearing a red baseball cap, baggy blue jeans, and no shirt. Additionally, police said the man was observed playing with a lighter both inside and outside the store.
