Suspect in Eastlake revenge slaying charged with murder, assault

The Shoreline man suspected of shooting two people, killing one, in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood early Monday was charged today with first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

Tomas “Alex” Berhe, 31, is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Aug. 7. He is being held in the King County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

Berhe allegedly threatened to “take care of business” if he saw the victim, Everett Williams, a 21-year-old whom Berhe accused of shooting his cousin, according to the probable-cause statement outlining the Seattle police against the men.

Berhe allegedly shot Williams and another man around 12:20 a.m. Monday in an alley west of the 2200 block of Franklin Avenue East. The probable-cause statement also says a 21-year-old Seattle man drove Berhe from the crime scene.

Police found Williams unconscious in the front passenger seat of a white Lexus with gunshot wounds to his face, arms and body. He later died at the scene. A second man who was with Williams suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm and was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The 21-year-old man who allegedly drove Berhe from the crime scene will be released pending further investigation, the prosecutor’s office said.
