Tacoma Fire Department fighting blaze at Bradken-Atlas Foundry
Update 9:49 p.m. | Given the structural instability of the building, crews have mounted a defensive strategy on the fire, according to a post on the fire department’s official blog site. The plan is to allow the collapsed roofing material to burn off and to allow the molten metal to cool down before final extinguishing. Officials are expecting it to take several hours before the fire is fully extinguished.
Tacoma Fire Department have dispatched 35 firefighter personnel for a 2-alarm fire the Bradken-Atlas Foundry.
The fire was first reported at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at the industrial complex located on South Wilkeson Street.
Joe Meinecke, public information officer for the fire department, said the roof of the structure had collapsed by the time firefighters arrived on the scene. No injuries have been reported so far and all of Atlas Foundry workers have been accounted for.
We’ll update as we get more information.
