Thursday Memo: Cooler weekend … Poor pergola … Macklemore at Dick’s
Cooling down? Temperatures are expected to ease back toward more normal ranges this weekend: low- to mid-70s in Western Washington and 80s in Eastern Washington. The recent run of hot weather — Spokane is looking at its 10th-straight day of 90-degree weather — means wildfire danger east of the mountains.
Landmark vs. vehicle, take three: Pioneer Square’s historic pergola has been hit by a vehicle … again. Witnesses say the driver fled the scene after hitting a light pole that collapsed onto the car, according to KIRO.
The National Historic Landmark was rebuilt after a lost truck driver knocked into it in 2001. Another semi-truck damaged the pergola again in April 2012.
Show stopper: Hundreds of fans converged on Dick’s Drive-In on Capitol Hill for a less-than-secret video shoot with hip-hop star Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. After 10 p.m., a couple hours late, Macklemore and Lewis finally hit the set, cruising back and forth on Broadway in a classic blue-and-white Cadillac to shoot video for the song “White Walls.” See photos, tweets from the event here.
