Thursday Memo: Girl, 7, attacked … Saving Swiftsure … A great guy departs
7-year-old Puyallup girl assaulted: Sorry case of the 7-year-old girl who was abducted last night, taken into the woods and sexually assaulted. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested. We’re hoping police will provide more as the day progresses.
Old ship being saved: We like it when vintage things are kept and renovated for posterity. The 109-year-old lightship Swiftsure is one of those things, and the renewal is happening on our own Lake Union. Lightships plied the waters along the West and East coasts, providing light beacons for other ships coming to port. Read staff reporter Jack Broom’s story on this vessel here.
Top editor David Boardman leaving Seattle Times: It’s a sad day around the Times newsroom with the announcement that Executive Editor Dave Boardman is leaving after 30 years here. We wish him the very best. He’s not only a great journalist. He’s a great guy. Even the Times’ long-, long-time competitor the P-I did a nice piece on Boardman’s impending departure.
Scary time at a K-Mart: We’re just glad nothing came of this, but the guy is still on the lam. Police: Man threatened to shoot customers at Marysville Kmart
Well, it might have been worth that much … There were reports yesterday that the yacht that caught fire and is now under water at Roche Harbor at San Juan Island was worth $5.5 million. Yikes.
