77-year-old woman hit by car in South Kitsap County
A 77-year-old Kitsap County woman was hit by a Ford Mustang while crossing Sidney Road Southwest after checking her mailbox Friday afternoon and had serious injuries, according to a news release from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman had crossed Sidney Road Southwest from her driveway on the 8500 block to check her mailbox, and deputies said she apparently didn’t look when walking back across the street.
The Mustang, driven by a 24-year-old woman, was traveling north at about 45 mph, deputies said, and the driver wasn’t able to stop quickly enough to avoid hitting the older woman.
South Kitsap Fire & Rescue medics treated the woman who had been hit and took her to Tacoma General Hospital. The injuries, while serious, don’t appear to be life-threatening, the release said. Deputies say the driver was not impaired.
