Arson at Madrona Elementary School causes $2,500 in damage

Seattle firefighters quickly doused an intentionally-set fire that burned a shed outside Madrona Elementary School early Sunday, according to fire department spokeswoman Lt. Sue Stangl.

Someone driving by the school at 1121 33rd Ave. in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood called 911 just after 12:30 a.m. to report the fire, Stangl said. Firefighters had the fire out in less than 10 minutes, she said.

Once the fire was determined to be arson, the case has been handed over to Seattle police, according to Stangl. The fire caused  $2,500 in damage, with $1,000 to the exterior of the school, $1,000 in damage to the shed and $500 in damage to the contents of the shed, she said.
