Everett man found dead in apartment fire

A fire official in Everett says a man was found dead after an apartment fire that drew firefighters from nearby cities. The fast-moving blaze reportedly was accompanied by explosions.

The Daily Herald reports the Friday afternoon fire in the San Marco building sent smoke over parts of north Everett.

The victim was believed to be elderly but Assistant Fire Marshal Eric Hicks did not immediately know his age. The man was not identified.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Witness Jeff Steeves was driving by and started knocking on windows of the two-story building to alert occupants. He says “flames just started flying out of the top unit.”
