Everett police won’t seek charges against father who ran over daughter

Everett police say the death of a little girl who was run over in a driveway last week was an accident.

Eighteen-month-old Malana Lai of Everett died from blunt-force and crushing injuries when someone backed over her with a car last Thursday afternoon, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. Detectives have determined the driver of the vehicle was the girl’s father and have ruled it was an accident.

No charges will be referred for prosecution, the police department said today.

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. the 10200 block of 1st Place West. Officers immediately began CPR but Malana was pronounced dead at the scene.
