Kitsap teen thrown 50 feet when car hits bicycle

SILVERDALE, Kitsap County — A 15-year-old bicyclist is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle and thrown 50 feet.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday the Silverdale teenager rode her bicycle out of a driveway and into the path of a Jeep Wrangler. Authorities say the driver tried to avoid striking the girl but was unable to do so.

Emergency responders treated the girl at the scene. Then, they airlifted her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

Authorities say the teenager was not wearing a helmet and that there’s no evidence the driver was traveling at an excessive speed.
