Man dies after being struck by train north of Tacoma

TACOMA — Authorities are investigating the death of a man struck by a train north of Tacoma.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas said the northbound coal train struck the man around 3 p.m. on Monday. He says three passenger trains face temporary delays as officials at the site investigate the matter.

Melonas says the train used its emergency brake but ultimately struck the person on the tracks.
