North Cascades Highway to reopen Monday
The North Cascades Highway, closed by mudslides for over a week, is to reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, the state Department of Transportation said Sunday.
The highway closed Aug. 10 after heavy rain, hail storms and high winds touched off eight mudslides that buried it up to 25 feet in debris along a six-mile stretch. Crews had hoped to restore travel between the Skagit and Methow valleys over the weekend, but had to deal with boulders that blocked the road, plus mounds of dirt and trees.
Drivers should expect to see cones, signs and traffic control as work continues.
