Saturday Memo: Rents keep climbing … Bumbershoot gets going … Huskies play tonight

Weather: Still lovely. High in the upper 70s, low 80s in some spots. Same tomorrow. Here is the National Weather Service forecast.

Renters, open your wallets: If you think your rent went up a crazy amount, and you are telling your friends around the country how expensive Seattle is – here’s some facts to back you up. Apartment rents in the Seattle area rose faster in the past year than in any other metropolitan area traced by a leading research firm. The average asking rent in the Seattle area rose 6 percent over the past 12 months (reaching $1,150), bigger increases than in San Francisco and Boston, for instance. Ouch! See business reporter Sanjay Bhatt’s story on what rents are going for here and in other cities — and what’s behind the soaring prices.

Bumbershoot: The festival runs today through Monday. Check out our list of 30 things to do at Bumbershoot.

Husky football:season opener: Tonight, UW plays No. 19 Boise State in the brand new, upgraded, much talked about $280.6 million Husky Stadium. Here’s the question: Will fans like the team as much as the stadium? We shall see. Game coverage begins at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports 1. And come back to seattletimes.com for reports on the game and reviews of the stadium.  Here’s reporter Adam Jude’s preview.
