SWAT team uses robot, gas in Renton home-burglary arrest

Renton police responded to a house burglary in the 19000 block of 113th Way Southeast at 12:20 Friday afternoon when a neighbor saw a man trying to kick in the door, according to a Renton Police Department news release.

One man was arrested and another was taken for questioning.

A third man would not leave the house, so the Valley SWAT Team surrounded it and used a public-address system to order him to come out. When that didn’t work, police used a robot and cameras to search the house and then entered it themselves, according to the release.

Officers heard sounds coming from the attic and used tear gas to make the suspect come down. He was arrested.

The men are a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old from Seattle and a 32-year-old from Renton. They were to be booked into a misdemeanor jail in Des Moines for investigation of felony burglary, according to the news release.

Police closed 192nd Street and the surrounding area during the operation, but the streets were reopened Friday evening.
