Woman hits deer, then is killed by truck on I-405

The Associated Press

UPDATE: 10:50 a.m. |

A semi-truck struck and killed a Seattle woman who was sitting in her car and waiting for help after she hit a deer on Interstate 405 on Monday.

The 24-year-old called 911 several times — and apparently her boyfriend, as well — to report that she was stopped in a left-center lane on I-405 southbound in Bellevue, Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Webb said.

Both a trooper and the boyfriend were on their way at about 4:30 a.m. when a semi struck the woman’s car and pushed it off the left shoulder, killing her. The boyfriend arrived in the aftermath of the crash.

“We had a trooper en route to the scene and then we got calls the vehicle had been struck,” Webb said.

The patrol identified the woman as Alea S. Price, of Seattle, and said she was wearing a seatbelt.

She reported to dispatchers that she believed her car, a 2006 Toyota Scion, was disabled after striking the deer, Webb said. There was some front-end damage, but investigators weren’t sure that was the case.

Troopers don’t believe drugs or alcohol factored in the crash. They interviewed the truck’s driver, identified as Kulwinder Singh, 28, of Blaine, on Monday morning.

The state Transportation Department said the crash caused about a 2-mile backup.
