3rd report of a man exposing himself near a W. Seattle school
Seattle police say that for the third time in 10 days a student in West Seattle has been the victim of a serial flasher.
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a girl at Westside School, 7740 34th Avenue Southwest, saw a partially naked man in a vehicle.
The child was on the playground, which is elevated above the street, when she looked down and saw a man dressed in a red T-shirt and no pants sitting in a car, according to police. The girl went back to playing with her friends and did not report the incident to school staff.
It wasn’t until the girl got home and told her father what she had seen that police were notified — nearly four hours after the incident, police said.
The suspect in Wednesday’s indecent exposure is described as a man in his 30s or 40s with short dark hair, a normal to slender build and a scruffy-looking beard. The man was sitting in a small, black car that had exterior damage. Anyone with information is asked to dial 911.
Police spokesman Jeff Kappel wrote in a news release that it is possible the same suspect is involved in all three incidents.
Sexual Assault Unit detectives are also investigating two similar incidents outside Holy Rosary School in West Seattle, one yesterday, the other on Sept. 9.
In yesterday’s incident, three 14-year-old girls initially saw a man parked on 41st Avenue Southwest holding a cellphone in a way that suggested he was photographing or videotaping them, according to a police report.
The students thought that was weird, so they moved to another part of the schoolyard. When the man then moved his car to get closer to the girls, they saw the driver’s side door open, revealing him to be naked from the waist down, the report said. The three ran to tell the recess monitor, and the man drove off westbound on Southwest Dakota Street, according to the report.
On Sept. 9, a man in a white van called a trio of 9-year-olds over to his car, where they saw him sitting naked in the front seat. They also ran away to tell a teacher as the suspect drove off.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Sexual Assault Unit at 206-684-5575 to report it. Anonymous tips are welcome.
