Alleged car prowler killed in Maple Valley identified

A suspected car prowler, who was shot by a former Marine outside a Maple Valley home early Tuesday, has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as 26-year-old Blake Moore, of Renton.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the former Marine walked out of his aunt’s home shortly after midnight and confronted Moore, who was inside the Marine’s Toyota pickup. The former Marine, who was armed with a 9 mm handgun and had a concealed-weapon permit, ordered the suspected car prowler to the ground, police said.

The suspect briefly complied, but got up and headed for a stolen Honda that his girlfriend had parked nearby, according to law enforcement sources. The former Marine then fired at one of the tires on the Honda and the suspected prowler pulled out a gun and began firing his weapon. The former Marine then shot and killed the suspected prowler.

The girlfriend, who has been arrested on a warrant for burglary, was unharmed, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
