Hitting barrier kills motorcyclist in Pierce County

A motorcycle rider was fatally injured when he hit a barrier on Highway 509 near Dash Point State Park in the Tacoma area about 5:30 p.m. Monday.

State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said the victim, an adult male, did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license.

Gill said excessive speed and passing in a no-passing area contributed to the incident.

Traffic was diverted off the highway for the investigation.
