Homicide suspected in hunter’s death in Eastern Wash.

The shooting death of a Western Washington hunter in Okanogan County Monday is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim was shot about 7 p.m. at  Cow Camp Road on Pontiac Ridge out of Chesaw, said Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.

Rogers did not indentify the victim, but said he and another Western Washington man had been together in a car to go grouse hunting.

When the victim stepped out of the car to shoot a grouse, the man who remained in the vehicle heard a shot. He then saw his bloodied companion fall to the ground.

The uninjured man took the victim to a home in the area for help, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a news release,  Rogers said “We do have people of interest” in the case, but no arrests had been made as of Monday morning.
