Lynnwood high-school student dies in PE class

A student at Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood collapsed and died Friday morning during a physical-education class, the school announced in a letter sent to parents.

Staff, paramedics and hospital staff responded but were unable to revive him, Meadowdale Principal Kevin Allen wrote in the letter. The cause of death was not yet released.

Allen wrote that the junior was a “respectful, hard-working young man who was serious about his education; an all-around nice kid who we will miss.”

Family members have asked that they be given time to grieve privately, he said.

The high school and the Edmonds School District will provide counseling to students who need it, and the letter asked parents to call the school if they feel their child needs additional support.

“I know you join us in sending his family our deepest condolences during this difficult time,” Allen wrote.
