Who ya gonna call?
For ghosts, Ghostbusters, of course, and for emergencies, 911.
But, starting next week, there’s a new number for Auburn, Algona and Pacific residents for nonemergencies.
That number, 253-288-2121, should be used for circumstances that are “do not require immediate assistance from police, fire or medics,” according to a news release from the city of Auburn.
These could vary from noise or parking complaints to lost or stolen property.
The change aims to help operators and police respond more quickly to emergency situations. Both 911 and the 253-288-2121 numbers will ring into the Valley Communications System, the release said, and if a nonemergency call is determined to be an emergency, it will still be routed to the correct operator for immediate response.
If you’re ever unsure whether a situation is an emergency, call 911.
Other nearby cities are also deploying nonemergency numbers this fall. The news release gave numbers for the following nearby cities:
- Renton: 425-235-2121
- Tukwila: 206-241-2121
- Federal Way: 253-835-2121
- Des Moines: 206-878-2121
- Black Diamond: 360-886-0022
Auburn citizens can also file police reports on the Auburn police’s website.
