Seattle police officers were assaulted at a baptism celebration on Saturday night just before midnight, according to an item on the department’s blotter.
The officers responded to a disturbance at a large baptism celebration being held at the South Park Community Center.
There was abundant alcohol served inside, and several of the celebrants began fighting. Officers arrived and were set upon by the crowd when they tried to break up the fights. The officers called for backup, and a city-wide call went out for assistance.
King County deputies also responded and assisted. Five officers were assaulted and had minor injuries. The community center was evacuated, and the crowd dispersed. Two suspects were arrested and booked into King County Jail for Assault.
