Tentative agreement reached between Seattle teachers, district
Seattle Superintendent Jose Banda and Seattle Education Association President Jonathan Knapp have announced that the school district and the teachers union succeeded in reaching a tentative agreement early this morning.
Banda did not include any details about the agreement in a news release, saying the membership of the Seattle Education Association still needs to ratify it. The union has scheduled a general membership meeting for late Tuesday afternoon at Benaroya Hall. Knapp said that union leaders will meet with its bargaining team this morning and may provide some more information after that.
If teachers approve the agreement, school can start on time as scheduled on Wednesday.
Knapp said he has scheduled meetings of the union’s board and representative assembly Monday, which will be followed by the general membership meeting on Tuesday.
