Couple walking dog struck by train in Kennewick

KENNEWICK — A freight train has hit a couple walking a dog along railroad tracks in Kennewick, Wash. Police say a woman was killed Monday afternoon and a man was severely injured.

The Tri-City Herald reports that officers say the man and woman were walking with a pit bull-mix dog just east of the Volland Street train overpass.

The newspaper says the dog was injured and taken to a veterinarian.

BNSF Railway officials were assisting police with the investigation.

The couple were not immediately identified.
