Government shutdown halts Sauk River rafters

DARRINGTON (AP) — The government shutdown reaches all the way to the Sauk River.

Owners of the Adventure Cascades river-rafting business in Darrington told The Daily Herald they can’t float without a permit from the Forest Service, and the people who handle that aren’t working.

The river rafting business is slow now, but they hope to get permits in time for trips at the end of the month to see wintering eagles.
