EARLIER POST | A truck fire near the east side of Mercer Island has backed up eastbound traffic on Interstate 90 across the island and Lake Washington.
The state Department of Transportation said shortly before 4 p.m. the backup was four miles. The fire occurred shortly before 3:30, sending up a thick plume of black smoke.
All general-purpose lanes were closed, and traffic was diverted onto the express lanes. The fire’s out now, but traffic is still a mess.
