Driver killed, pregnant woman hurt in passing attempt on Highway 2
The driver of a Mercedes sedan was killed, and a pregnant passenger hurt, in a head-on crash Saturday, as the driver tried to pass another vehicle on Highway 2.
The crash happened just east of Index, on the way to Stevens Pass. The car was in a no-passing zone and traveling erratically just before the wreck, said Trooper Mark Francis of the Washington State Patrol. It ran head-on into a large pickup that was going west. The pregnant woman and the pickup driver were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett – Colby Campus, and two pickup passengers were transferred from a Monroe hospital to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, troopers said.
