Sunday Memo: Hawks vs. Titans … Still shut down … ORCA readers

Tilting the Titans: The Seattle Seahawks are at home today  at CenturyLink Field against the Tennessee Titans, but it won’t be much of a homecoming for Jake Locker, the former Ferndale High School and University of Washington star quarterback. Injured, he will not be starting for Tennessee’s NFL team. The game starts at 1:05 p.m.; the traffic much sooner than that.

Offices closed: Some government offices may be closed Monday for the Columbus Day holi … oh, wait, some government offices will be closed Monday as they have been for the past two weeks because of the government shutdown. The deal in talks this weekend between House Republicans and the Obama administration was no deal. The reaction from the public, both nationally and locally, was pessimistic — 8 in 10 respondents in one poll said the country is seriously off track — and hardly encouraging to politicians, especially Republicans, who found favor with only 24 percent of those in two national polls.

A speedier Metro: That’s the intention behind the installation of electronic ORCA card readers in downtown Seattle. The work started Saturday on the readers, which will allow bus riders to tap their cards before boarding some RapidRide routes. Plans are to have the readers installed along Third Avenue by Nov. 22.
