Two-story house fire in Edmonds displaces couple, kills cat

A fire burned through a two-story Edmonds house  in the 700 block of Hemlock Way, displacing a couple and their three dogs tonight.

Neighbors who saw smoke and flames called 911 and alerted the homeowners, according to an Edmonds Fire Department news release. A combined team of about 35 firefighters from Snohomish County Fire District 1, Lynnwood and Shoreline were able to control the fire in about 15 minutes, but not before it had engulfed half of the house, the release said.

No one was injured in the fire, but one of the homeowners’ cats died and another is unaccounted for, the release said.

The resulting burns and smoke damage left the house uninhabitable, and the Red Cross and Support 7 are providing temporary aid to the couple, the release said. The pair does have insurance.

The release said investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
