Seattle police say they caught two car thieves in the act this morning in the Rainier Valley.
Just before 5 a.m., a man called 911 to report that two suspicious males were in the rear parking lot of his apartment complex in the 7900 block of Rainier Avenue South.
One of the males was seated in the passenger seat of a Honda sedan with the engine running. The other was outside using pliers to remove a license plate off of another Honda.
Police, who were in the area on a predictive policing patrol, arrived and detained the pair. Turns out the Honda that one male was seated in had just been stolen out of Seattle. The other male was attempting to steal a license plate from another car and affix it to the stolen Honda, police said.
Police also found about 50 pieces of suspected stolen mail from the stolen Honda. One of the suspects was also wanted on outstanding warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle.
