Man killed by falling tree near Arlington

A 25-year-old man died this afternoon after being struck by a falling tree near Arlington.

A relative of the victim called for help around 3:45 p.m. after seeing a tree on top of a tent where the man had been living, said Snohomish County sheriff’s spokesman Shari Ireton. Authorities found the man dead inside the tent.

The tent was on property owned by the victim’s parents, Ireton said.

It’s unclear when the tree fell or whether the family heard it fall, said Ireton. She described the property, in the 12000 block of 158th Street Northeast, as rural.

Ireton said the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will handle formal identification and will determine the cause and manner of death.
