Man shot in knee during attempted robbery in Rainier Beach

A man was shot in the knee this afternoon during an attempted robbery in Rainier Beach.

Police said the incident occurred at 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of Renton Avenue South and South Ryan Street when the gunman attempted to rob the victim of his iPhone. The victim resisted and was shot during a struggle, police said.

Officers immediately searched the area but did not find the gunman, who may have fled in a black SUV, police said.

The victim was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department medics and then was taken to Harborview Medical Center. His wound was not considered life-threatening, police said.
