Washington man killed riding moped on Maui

HONOLULU (AP) — Maui police say the victim in a fatal weekend moped crash was a 36-year-old Washington state man.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports Rama Fire died in the crash Saturday night.

Fire lived in Seattle, but the San Juan Islander reported that he grew up on San Juan Island.

Police say Fire was driving on Kokomo Road in Haiku and his scooter crossed the center line.

The moped collided with a sedan driven by a 43-year-old Haiku woman. She and two passengers were using seat belts and were not injured.

The fatality was Maui’s 13th traffic death this year.
