LONGVEW — The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office says a 67-year-old Longview man has been rescued after spending five nights in freezing temperatures after his pickup ran off a logging road.
Cowlitz County Undersheriff Marc Gilchrist said a bow hunter found Richard Sturm on Friday.
Sturm’s daughter, Julie Nelson, told the Daily News of Longview that her father was dehydrated and “freezing from the cold” but alert as he was taken to a Longview hospital.
The Daily News reports the man had only a candy bar to eat and that his pickup battery had died, so for most of the time he had no heat.
Gilchrist says the man was last seen Sunday evening when he left his daughter’s Castle Rock house after dinner to return to his own home.
PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center spokesman Randy Querin says doctors recommended the man be sent to another hospital for undisclosed medical procedures.
