Burn ban issued for King, Snohomish and Pierce counties

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has issued a Stage 1 burn ban for King, Snohomish and Pierce counties, effective at 5 p.m. Dec. 25.

The ban is due to increasingly stagnant air, according to the agency.

During a Stage 1 burn ban, burning is not allowed in fireplaces or uncertified wood stoves. The only exception is if a wood stove is a home’s only adequate source of heat.

No outdoor fires are allowed, including recreational fires such as bonfires, campfires as well as the use of fire pits and chimineas.

Violations are subject to a $1,000 penalty.

Natural gas, propane, pellet and EPA-certified wood stoves or inserts can be used during a Stage 1 burn ban.
