Friday Memo: UW football coach poll … brrrrrr …. big pot party at Seattle Center

New Husky football coach: ESPN is quoting sources who say Boise State’s Chris Petersen has accepted the job. That was fast! Former coach Steve Sarkisian resigned just last Monday.

Were you surprised that Petersen was chosen as the new UW football coach? Vote in our poll.

Cold temperatures, snow and ice have led some school districts south and southwest of Seattle to start schools two hours late. We said it was cold around here, right? It will be sunny for the next few days and that contributes to the cold. National Weather Service forecast

That pot anniversary party: The party we earlier mentioned to celebrate the state’s legal pot anniversary is scheduled to happen under the Space Needle tonight. Hundreds could show up. The party is sanctioned by the city.

Deer rescued from thin ice: A doe ventured out on the ice of Liberty Lake near Spokane yesterday morning, but the ice couldn’t support her. Firefighters tried to save her, but they fell through the ice. A homeowner offered his paddle board and an ice rescue sled was brought in. That and a rope brought the deer to safety, and she walked into the forest. We like that.

You would think Boeing had no money: The airplane maker hopes to get a “no cost” site to build its 777x plane somewhere other than Seattle, and cities are lining up to bid for the work.
